New compartments for the origins of metabolism

Alternate compartments

Michael Russel proposes new compartments for the onset of “living entities” that would be composed of structures formed by Fe/Ni Sulfur. This idea is however not supported by any experimental data. The goals here would be the investigation of the formation of these compartment boundaries, the study of their properties in terms of encapsulation, permeability towards small molecules and biopolymers, effects on biopolymers (RNA, peptides) and the possibility of synthetic activity in them.
